So today I went out and saw the spankin’ new The Simpsons Movie (2007).
I must confess, I’ve never been a huge fan of the yellow-skinned animated characters – they have cased me to smile now and then, but they were not “spectacular!” and “totally rad, dude!” to me.
Maybe it’s because the comedy influences I had when in developing years ranged from the old-time USA comedians (Jack Benny, George Burns, the whole gang from back then) to foreign humor – namely British. The swift, cutting edge of the British leaves me wanting more – whether it be the physical situational comedy of Fawlty Towers, or the wartime-inspired ridiculous mess ‘Allo, ‘Allo (Listen very carefully; I shall say this only once!).
Now, don’t get me wrong – the movie was funny, indeed. It had me laughing out loud on many occasions, as I think you, dear reader, will do so as well. The plot was nice and developed, as well as making a political statement (Save the Planet!), and keeping you interested in what’s about to happen.
There were some touching moments, and a lot of cheesy ones too – so go, see the movie. Enjoy it as much as you can. Hell, enjoy everything as much as you can.
